Is it Permissible to Eat Rabbits?

Is it permissible to eat rabbits?

Yes, it is permissible to eat rabbits according to all four schools of thought. There are many narrations that suggest the Prophet (saw) approved its consumption. The famous companion Anas (ra) narrates, “We chased a rabbit at Marruth-thahrān and the people ran after it but were exhausted. I overpowered and caught it, and gave it to Abū Talhah who slaughtered it and sent its hip or two thighs to the Prophet (saw) who accepted it. (al-Bukhārī, 5535)
